Country Lane Baskets

Welcome to my artist page. Since 1990 I have been making baskets and specialize in traditional (especially twill pattern baskets) and Nantucket Lightship baskets. The traditional baskets are made with rattan. The handles are oak, hickory or ash and many are hand carved. The rattan can be left natural, stained or dyed in a wide range of colors.

I'm a juried member of Nantucket Basket Makers Association and the Southern Highlands Craft Guild. I'm able to give a certificate of authenticity with all Nantucket baskets.

In 2002, I was chosen for Early American Life's Directory of Traditional American Crafts

The Nantucket Lightship baskets are woven over a mold using cane and a wooden base. I use very special bases and lids with exotic woods as well as cherry, walnut or oak. Sometimes, stone such as turquoise or malachite is incorporated in the natural crevices of the wood. The knobs and other adornments are usually bone but ivory can be used on request. My Lightship baskets are sold on Nantucket Island.

I strive to make baskets that are useful but also beautiful. I am happy to take orders for special baskets for special occasions.
