Future Plans

The Artisans Center of Virginia believes that collaboration with many different art/craft organizations throughout the state is key to the successful promotion of Virginia artisans and the fine craft they produce.

The State legislature recognized the importance of this institution to the state by designating ACV as the "Official Artisans Center of Virginia" in the 1999 legislative session.

Our long-term goal is construction of an approximate 50,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility to house our educational programs, museum, research center and retail gallery.

ACV educational programs consist of high-quality workshops and classes for all ages. These are offered at the Center as well as outreach programs in the region’s school systems. Please check this web site regularly for upcoming class offerings.

The museum will showcase the historic development of craft and its impact on industry and culture. The Artisans Center will establish permanent, temporary, and traveling exhibits with a focus on displays and demonstrations. A permanent collection of tools and craft specimens important to the creation of Virginia's art/craft heritage and culture will be established and maintained in accordance with professional museum guidelines.

A Research Center will be created to document significant contributions from Virginia's past, which have had a major impact on shaping the state's heritage, culture, and society. The Research Center will also develop and maintain a comprehensive electronic database of Virginia artisans, past and present, and will gather information on various craft related activities, events and shows throughout the state.
