Artist Statement:
I saw my first floor cloth 10 years ago in Colonial Williamsburg. I was so inspired by the bright colors and patterns of the painted canvas on the floor that I immediately started to research floor cloths and began creating my own designs. I find great joy in making floor cloths because I can employ my skills as a painter to create a floor covering that is beautiful, functional, and brings a historic craft into contemporary life. The designs I create are inspired by natural forms, geometric designs, and various decorative arts movements. My floor cloths are unique because of my painterly style in which I layer colors and capitalize on the brushstrokes to create richness and depth. In addition to floor cloths, I also make other canvas mats for the home using the same process: place mats, table mats, runners, coasters, book markers and pet mats.
