Outreach Program
The Outreach Program is a series of instructional workshops
provided to elementary and secondary schools in Augusta County
and beyond.
The presentation of a series of 2-hour workshops offers a unique
and experiential opportunity that is not available in the public
school system due to the lack of funding for regular art instruction.
Artisans discuss the process they use in developing their work
and demonstrate their craft. Students are given an opportunity
to create their own handmade project using a hands-on interactive
approach to facilitate the educational process. Artisans work
directly with educator to ensure that desired Standards of
Learning (SOL’s) are addressed.
Artisans selected to take part in the Outreach Program must
go through a critical review process to qualify for participation.
The Center's standards insure that unique items of the highest
professional quality representing hand-made crafts are presented.
The Outreach Program’s success is measured by the number
of schools and students participating in the workshops. The
Artisans Center requests an evaluation questionnaire be completed
by the supervising educator and students are also encouraged
to communicate the impact of the presentation in writing.
The goal of the program is to fill all requests made and to
be able to continue to offer the workshops at no cost to the
schools. If you are interested in scheduling an Outreach visit
or if you would like to support the program contact Elizabeth
Moss, Director of Programs and Exhibitions and Program Coordinator or Michael
Dowell, Executive Director.
